Beck plays actual instruments and is a real musician. Beyonce just shakes her ass. She's an entertainer; slightly more talent than a stripper. Beck may have not sold as many records but the "masses" aren't the best arbiters of taste (or musical sophistication).[/quote]

Beck did not take his own album very seriously. He considered it a prelude to his more artistically serious next album that he's been working on for a year. Beck himself thought Beyonce would win.  He didn't mind that West got up on stage. He smiled and said "come back!" after he left.

It's a lovely album with some beautiful songs, but it sure wasn't beautiful enough to make an impression on most of America, many of whom were scrambling to remember anything they'd heard from it before. Nice album?  Of course. Album of the year?  Come. On.
