I felt bad after the first nurse got it but this second one must be a complete fucking idiot. She exposed her entire family? Wtf? Is she clueless? What sort of nursing school did she go to?
Don't know. But there are plenty of bad ones.
I think this has less to do with her as a nurse and more to do with her as a person. Any person, med professional or not, is generally not going to expose their families if they know they may have something contagious.
How could she not know? She is a nurse-- supposedly educated in infectious diseases. She was told to monitor herself for possible exposure as was the other nurse. So she hops on a plane to go plan her wedding? I would hope that any medical professional would be smarter than that.
She should have known, yes. However the CDC should have classified all health care workers involved in Duncan's care as high-risk. Monitoring your own temp after you've been working with a highly infectious patient, all while wearing inadequate gear!? It would be laughable if it weren't such a tragic failure. She never should have been able to get on that plane. Everyone caring for Duncan (and cleaning staff, etc) should have been placed under mandatory quarantine. The CDC announced now that nurse 2 shouldn't have flown. They're punting the ball downfield. They should have known plenty about human nature (the exposed DO put others at risk), and that outside of 4 centers, hospitals are ill-equipped and ill-trained for Level 4 diseases. I am disgusted by the CDC's bungling and by Obama's lack of leadership. And before I'm accused of making this a Republican-Democrat blame game--I'm a registered Dem who was active in raising money for Obama.
