OP one last time...not sure why everyone keeps saying there are no consequences for them not doing homework. There ARE. They get zeros and every one of them is factored into their grades. That is the ONLY consequence for not doing homework in high school and its the same for every kid, mine are no exception. Yes, they took chem and geometry--haven't yet gotten to calc but one will next year. Geometry was so strange, as a totally random comment completely off subject--it seemed much more like trig to me than geometry. They aren't taking AP classes but are in some honors classes where they have interest in the subject. They are just normal kids, and I am just a normal mom. Im not bragging about anything, I was asking opinions due to one encounter from one teacher which made me question my thinking. My sister's daughter was similar to my kids-graduated with As and Bs, played a sport but was nothing spectacular, and did some volunteer stuff through high school. She just got into Boston University. Good school, I'd be perfectly happy with BU. My brother's kid is going to UMASS Amherst...another good school. Didn't need straight As, same thing--kid got As and Bs. We aren't crazy over where our kids go to college. They just have to go to a good college-and there's plenty of them. Now, we DO require that our kids GO to college...which is something else I wonder if my thinking is messed up about. To me, I just don't see how you can support yourself these days without a college degree. But I know others differ, and I have an open mind about it.
