Anonymous wrote: Anonymous wrote: For those interested in Haynes, I know for a fact that they will have at least one PK4 spot (and likely PK3) by June 20. What's going on at Haynes? We keep hearing about people taking their kids out, very unhappy. I am not a Haynes parent but these kind of posts are so irritating. If someone close to you is pulling their kid for a specific reason, you have more insight than what you have presented. So either you're being a gossip snob and don't know facts/spreading rumors or you're being a mean girl.
Haynes family (Pk3) returning next year. I would give it a B+, with aftercare a B or B-. I do not have other school experience to compare with, but we feel it has been a solid choice and I would contiue to recommend it. NEgatives: Communication sometimes spotty, esp with administratin but sometimes with teachers. I would prefer smaller classes with fewer teachers (the ratio of adults to students good, but the IT model perhaps more intriguing). However, I feel that my child is valued and cared for, and I have had a good experience with getting him the extra support he has needed. He is excited and happy to go to school and seems to be learning. FWIW, I did the lottery and turned down a spot (Barnard) after feeling like the move was not worth it, even though Barnard impressive in some ways, it does not 'beat' Haynes in my calcuation. I would give up a spot for LAMB, or maybe CM, but that's not happening. So, we are taking it year by year but are supporting the school in various ways. I really would like to hear from parents who are 'unhappy' particularly at older grades to know specifically why they are leaving. I would also love to know from other parents who are happy. I suspect in some ways it is less appealing TO DCUM population than other charters like creative minds or mundo verde or YY because it is a higher FARMS percentage: less money from parents for all sorts of extras, children from less advantaged backgrounds, etc. Hyanes is 60 percent low income (elementary) and 75 (middle) and 77 (high) versus YY: 16.6 low income CM: 36% LAMB: 29&% MV" 33
