I cannot believe the Swastika story.
I have a picture on my Facebook page that could prove it to you. They had a talent show at camp and it was in black and white. If I knew how to post those here, I would happily share. I couldn't believe my eyes at first, either. I'm in western fairfax county.
Not the pp, but I can believe this. I personally would not name my child this regardless of the meaning simply because I know that it would make her life harder here, but it is a true Bengali name with a beautiful meaning. Just because Hitler unfortunately ruined all connotations of the swastika and turned a symbol that had for 1000s of years meant peace and good luck across the world into a symbol of hate. I wonder sometimes if he had used a cross or triangle if we would still vehemently oppose those symbols today as we do the swastika. Here's an article about a town in Canada that took back their name- http://travel.ca.msn.com/international/photogallery.aspx?cp-documentid=25587761&page=6 Some issues others have had with this name: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/calcutta-times/I-wont-change-my-name-Swastika/articleshow/1409705.cms Interesting- http://www.ancient-origins.net/myths-legends/symbol-swastika-and-its-12000-year-old-history-001312
