Montoya was calling out several people from Wootton who said racist things about people who live in Gaithersburg. While Wootton at Crown will have some Hispanic kids, saying this wrecks Wootton’s academic excellence is gross and deserved to be called out. She also called out their use of the term “bussing,” which has historical significance and which is inappropriate when talking about 9 minute bus rides. While some Wootton parents have suggested that going from Fallsmead to Crown is some sort of day trip, high school buses stop less compared to lower grades which makes for shorter trips, and we’re talking about a distance that is an easy bicycle ride for most teens (3ish miles).
What did those people say that was racist? I’m also not familiar with how using bussing is racist either. If you need to explain it this much - it’s not what you think it is.
Everyone acting all innocent like they didn’t see all the racist and classist comments on all the WhatsApp chats and comments sections all of a sudden! This was coming from both boundary studies btw. If you don’t think those comments made it to the BOE, I’ve got a bridge to sell you!
If only we had some person in a position of leadership that was willing to call out racism. By describing racist behavior and its impact on BIPOC students. Instead we just have a vague hot mic comment in response to some people cheering a vote. That comment made by someone who voted to increase racial segregation in our school system. Possibly more impactful than comments on WhatsApp chat
That’s the most hilarious part. Montoya the person who just voted for the regional program which will only increase disparities and segregation in our schools—goes ahead and calls everyone else racist 🤣 Also so she got these messages of racism in her emails or chats or whatever? Cool—CALL those people out! If a Hispanic person does something bad, do we say all Hispanic people are bad? Of course not, because doing so would be racist. Why is this concept so hard for people to understand?
