Were you expecting OP to kill and pluck a chicken and do sautéed chicken breast with homemade sauce, for 2 people who may not even have been expected in advance? If I have unexpected guests, my go to is eggs, bread or pasta, fruit, and whatever fresh veg I have - usually celery or lettuce, but honestly, sometimes I’m down to cabbage. That’s pretty homemade. The only thing different for OP is not offering fruit or veg but maybe she had none on hand. [/quote]
