So glad this is my last time through this process. It’s awful
This is only my first time going through it, but it really hasn’t been awful at all. (For anyone with younger kids who might be reading this.) My kid came up with a reasonable list, including safeties she’d be happy to attend. She did all the work herself, no paid assistance. She’s still waiting on two, but she doesn’t really want to attend either, so mentally we’re basically done. It doesn’t have to be awful.
That's awesome! Congratulations to your DC and to you, too!! Just remember that every kid is different. They all come at this from different places and often want different things. If your kid falls in love with schools that have higher rates of admission AND they fit well within the schools' admit ranges, this can be a genuinely easy process. Again, congrats to your DC and to you!! FWIW, our DC chose a different path. They have the super high stats, ECs, drive, and risk appetite to apply to multiple T20 schools, which is inherently labor-intensive (supplemental essays) and stressful (single digit acceptance rates). It has not been easy for anyone, especially after DC was deferred from their EC school in December. As exhausted as we all are, this is what DC wanted to do, and we've been happy to support them through it. My guess is that our next DC will choose a different path that may be less stressful for all. Finally, I'm happy to report that DC got into their top-choice target at the end of January, so they now know they'll be happy no matter what happens as they wait for the rest of the results to come in, including from their ED school. :) Even so, it's been a slog. Hugs and good luck to everyone still in the thick of the waiting game. We're in the home stretch now!
That describes my son as well 😉
