My four daughters who are now ages 5-12, all got their ears pierced on their 6 month half birthdays, that was just something fun & cute we did. SIL who judged the first time, is now complaining about not being able to find time to pierce my 12yo's nieces ears, and my niece is rightfully upset about it. We have no regrets.
This is really a good reason to get them pierced young - mine got their ears pierced when they were in kindergarten and I'm so glad they did because I don't know when they'd be able to do it now - they each play sports, love to swim in the summer. There would be no good time to be able to leave fresh piercings in for 8 weeks. Do it when they're young in January or you'll have a girl crying because either she can't play her sport for a few weeks or she is forced to take her earrings out to play the sport.
