It’s been a couple days since DD’s turnaround and so far it has stuck. Her eating and sleeping is getting incrementally better and I can see she’s trying. What’s more, she’s actually cooperating with us, she’s sharing her feelings and thoughts with us, and she seems happier. She even shared her anxieties about upcoming tests, which I think is a big step for her. She’s doing other things besides homework. I learned how a seemingly small trigger could just send her on a downward spiral that she herself was not be able to pull out of. She literally was not thinking straight and we had to force her out. It’s something we will be mindful of in the future and something she can hopefully work on with her therapist once we find a good fit for her. I think she is finally at a point where we should be able to talk about what happened. Once enough time has passed she is at times able to see beyond her tunnel vision. And we can talk about what went awry and how we can do better. When she is happy, she is pretty much the coolest girl I know- smart as a whip, deeply interesting and thoughtful, just teeming with endless creativity, and perceives the world around her with such wonder and curiosity and understands it with intricate detail. So much so that I can learn more from her in an hour than I’ve ever learned in a whole school year.
