To be fair, that movie is 20 years old and I have never seen it. But she was in Crazy Rich Asians, and she just won an Oscar recently for everything everywhere all at once, so she's a star.

I had heard that as well, that she turned down the part multiple times because she said she can't sing. I thought she did okay, considering that, and many of the best performers on Broadway, especially character actors, are not necessarily the best singers.

It reminded me of casting Meryl Streep as the Witch in Into the Woods. Streep is amazing in so many other things but couldn't sing to carry the part to its full potential. [/quote]
