20+ kids transferred into Hayfield about 2/3 of which were at Freedom HS the year before. The VHSL rules state you can not transfer for athletic purposes. ISN'T THAT PROOF ENOUGH? Or I guess you could argue that they all happened to like Fairfax county Alexandria better than Woodbridge and they discovered this at the same time Overton became the Head Coach at Hayfield.
No it’s not enough proof. It’s speculation. The fact that Overton has such elite teams would make me think it, but the parents of the transfers said there were other reasons they factored in when deciding to transfer to Hayfield. One could say the same thing about Westfields and Madison. I know quite a few kids just at those two schools who I have strong suspicions that they only go there because they want to play sports there. In fact I know it’s factual in some cases.
Really? You know of 20+ kids who transferred into Westfield or Madison in a single year to play a single sport?
Exactly! Overton and Hatfield were so blatantly cheating and thumbing their nose up at the rules that the VHSL had to do something. Again, it is hard to pinpoint one or two families reasons for transferring, but when 20 or more students up and leave a school and follow the coach who was at the previous school. It is obvious to everyone except those who support Hayfield in Overton that there is some cheating going on. Again, you can argue that that rule should not exist. I do not think that is an unreasonable argument, but currently it does exist and all School should be following the same rules.
