Rep. Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is demanding that the Office of Special Counsel immediately investigate the Trump Administration’s apparent illegal use of government resources (our tax money) to promote a false and partisan Republican political agenda, following political messages regarding the current government shutdown being posted to multiple agency websites and via official government email to thousands of federal employees.

OSC is flooded with violation complaints against HUD, SBA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Justice Department, the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Office of Management and Budget, the Agriculture Department, and the White House.

The Hatch Act imposes clear restrictions on the political activity of federal executive branch employees. Additionally, there is a pending investigation by the Government Accountability Office to determine if the messaging violates the Anti-Deficiency Act, which prevents the use of government resources for any reason in excess of a given appropriation.
