The Hamas political leadership in Doha has always been an easy target for Israel. They used to avoid it. Instead preferring much more difficult operations like killing the Hamas leader when he was in Tehran.

The real question is why now?

Combined with telling everyone in Gaza City to leave now, I genuinely fear that Israel has decided to go to the dark side. Like they intend to take Gaza and kill and expel 2 million people.

And that would be the end of Israel.

It becomes a pariah state then - not just among progressives. But everywhere. Israel is a country that’s drunk on their success. Religious fanatics are dangerous everywhere, and Israelis are so full of it now that they seem capable of the worst in humanity.

And that’s a terrible shame. Israel was built on so much hope, but they are squandered everything now.

And they definitely can’t count on US support. 48, 67, and 73 are a very long time ago now. The Isreal of 2025 is very different. No one under 60 thinks Israel is anything special. And no American besides some boomers cares much about Israel today. Dropping support for Israel wouldn’t be an issue for Democrats and Republicans alike in today’s elections.

Israel is being very stupid today. But the orthodox extremists don’t care. They are religious fanatics and don’t care about the real world.

Like the Palestinians, Israelis are making some profoundly stupid long term choices. The US will drop support for Israel in a heartbeat once the geriatrics like Biden and Trump are gone. Even Republicans are appalled with the mass killing that Israelis are committing.

Choices matter. Palestinians made their choices. Israelis made theirs. They are both violent idiots. And the US should stay out of it completely.
