Agree, Holy Cross is very popular in our full pay town. By contrast Colgate has lost some of its appeal. Not many kids find Hamilton NY as a pull. Worcester while not Beverly Hills has improved and only 1 hour to Boston.
Is Worcester a pull? Haven't heard the best things.
I grew up nearby and it was a dump. It was a milltown (city actually, one of the largest in MA outside Boston) but mills all closed. Now it's connected to Boston via commuter rail, there's been a lot of gentrification with a restaurant/bar scene and a popular minor league baseball team plus UMass medical. There is a decent-sized college-aged population in and around the city (WPI, Clark, Assumption, Worcester State plus HC.) I've got a kid at one of the Maine LACs and I drive by HC on the way and wonder when it is going to really take off again. For my kid's Bethesda HS, the stats in Naviance for admission were sky high.
1) you aren’t from Worcester 2) thank you for reminding us why we would beat up you kids from Worcester burbs 3) Waterville and Lewiston are actually dumps (Brunswick isn’t, but you would have specigfically mentioned Bowdoin otherwise). Enjoy!
