This was already discussed- issue with weekend is swimmer swimming LC champs and other such meets. Would impact swimmer, volunteers and officials.

I am fine with just doing it early in the day on Wednesday. I took time off from work to get there early to volunteer and my kid didn't even get to swim. If I am going to take time off and plan to be there I at least want my kid to get the chance to swim. [/quote]

Agree that starting earlier on Wednesday is probably the best option.

The argument that there wouldn’t be enough officials to go around on Sunday is overblown IMO. There were 17 seperate Divisional relays and each had a full set of officials. Only need 1/17th of them for the ASR meet. [/quote]

The NVSL required, as a minimu, that officials be 'patched' and certified by the league to work higher meets outside of the typical Saturday morning dual meets. I'm guessing that requirement alone substanially lessens the official eligibility pool and would be another obstacle to moving toward a Sunday.

And this should stay in place.  You can’t just have a random parent who trained for two hours officiating at an All Star Level meet.

At our pool there are many, many officials who don’t have the skills to do a high level meet.  They are helping with volunteer hours during the dual meets and b meets which is great and needed.  There is a difference between a dual meet and all stars.[/quote]

I get that you want experienced officials, but at the same time no one is talking about making all-star relays a USA Swimming-observed meet and therefore subject to that level of officiating.

2 hours of training definitely doesn’t get you anywhere near USA Swimming Observed meet level.  I’m not sure there is a real argument that ASR and IAS are not higher level meets than a Div 10 or even Div 1 dual meet.

The deck is packed with distractions and there are a lot of things going on.  You want to have a fair, equitable meet for all of the competitors…we are all using up an entire day to make this happen for the swimmers.  You don’t want minor, rookie mistakes to decide the outcome for these kids.  The way to do that is to use experienced officials who can deal with the chaos and high pressure, not a less experienced official.[/quote]

There’s the group that always does All Stars and there’s the group with 2 hours of training. No one is disputing that or saying you should have someone with basically no experience running the meet. However, there are literally dozens of other officials with sufficient experience who are fair and equitable and capable of handling an All Star meet.[/quote]
