The only Democrats who survive in elected office will be the ones who cooperate and help him with his agenda. Sad but true.
Absolutely wrong and tone deaf.
Tone deaf to dcurbanmoms, but right on with the national electorate. Approval ratings for Democrats have plunged during Trump's two months in office. Trump's ratings have slipped a little too, but nothing like what's happened to Democrats. We struggle to grok it here in DC, but "all the craziness" of Trump's first 60 days have HELPED Republicans relative to Democrats. The numbers don't lie. Back in calmer times, Republicans and Democrats worked together. Think of Ronald Reagan and Tip O'Neill. But now Democrats have been "fighting" for 8 years, and the voters' response was to deliver Trump every single swing state and for every Demographic group to shift toward Republicans. The number of voters who want Democrats to just obstruct for the next four years is too small to deliver election victories to Democrats. I understand the calculus that many Democratic office holders are using. They know that Trump hate is the most important motivation for the most active Democrats. And they are afraid of being primaried from the Left. BUT...they aren't going to be able to win general elections if they do nothing but obstruct. They won't be able to win back the flyover state folks and independents and soccer moms if they reject the message those voters just sent--that they want populist Republicanism right now, not establishment Democratic obstructionism.
Republicans for years having voted No on almost everything. Congress has the lowest approval rating and each year it continues to be lower. So Democrats should just vote No or be absent. Stop with the propaganda that all these folk want populist Republicanism. It’s a lie. What most people want and desire is an ALTERNATIVE. Quite frankly I expect more people to become Independents.
That just means checked out at this point. I expect people to vote one way or another based on their wallet, not worry so much about belonging to one party or another
The voters consistently report trusting Republicans more with the economy than they trust Democrats. We've gotten awfully excited about the stock market backing down 10% off its highs. We're hoping that an economic downturn will make people wish they had voted for Kamala Harris. I would argue that's an unlikely outcome. That's not really how human psychology works. And hope is not a strategy. What are we going to DO, other than loudly wish for the American people to suffer a recession? (which is obviously not a great look. they know we want power, but do we have to be SO obvious about wanting Americans to suffer for daring to oppose us?)
No we don’t want “power” you disingenuous fool. We want to protect our country and the citizens from a con man who will sell us all out.
Wishing for everyone who disagrees with you to suffer doesn't exactly sound like you want to "protect" the country. It sounds like you're mad you didn't get want you want and want to hurt people now in response, or at least you hope they get hurt. Democrats try to claim the moral high ground on everything, but your true colors show every time you don't get what you want. You dint actually care about people. You wear a costume of caring about people as part of your strategy. But the mask slips when you're angry.
We get it. You hate democrats, but if you really are a flyover state person, you need to know the national Rs are selling you out, lock stock and barrel. I'm not saying you might not have good local R government. I live in a place like that. The local Rs are more moderate. They care for their constituents. But the national Republicans are only acting in the best interests of their very rich supporters right now. There are a lot of guardrails being removed ( let's be honest, placed there by Democrats) which used to protect the little guy, the average American. If people wish for a recession it's so people can understand how harmful some of these new policies are and how Trump is dismantling the country so it's no longer "of the people, for the people, by the people."
"People wish for a recession so people can understand how harmful Trump is." Ick. Everything has been about Trump every day for the past 10 years. People know him and the objections to him. And they still prefer him to Democrats, as evidenced by the election and by current approval ratings, which have plummetted for Democratic leaders even SINCE the election. Democrats need better policies and better results. Wishing for the entire country to suffer "so people can understand" is gross. You've had many chances to make your case for the American people, and they didn't find it compelling. Letting in all those illegal immigrants was a big mistake, and voters kicked you out for doing it. Now Democrats keep praying for stock market collapse, recession, no jobs for college graduates, etc., "so people can understand." It's sociopathic. Democrats sound like an evil mother wanting her children to be punished. And unfortunately, this is such bad politics that Democrats will be punished AGAIN at the ballot box next time. The Republican attack ads write themselves. Lots of quotable quotes by Democrats out there "fighting" for tenure for bureaucrats and unlimited deficit spending, while wishing for private-sector taxpayers to suffer economicially, not just from all the wasted taxes, but from a hoped-for economic collapse. We need to healthy parties, both with policies voters actually want. But the Democrats refuse to listen to voter feedback. It's The Party's way or the highway. The peons WILL have men on their girls' sports team, they WILL have more third-world immigrants, they WILL pay for every pet government program, and if they don't like it, they should SUFFER! If Democrats keep this up, there really WILL be no checks on Republican power, because the Democratic Party won't be relevant anymore. Get it together. Ask the voters what they want, and give it to them. No-one cares if a straight white politician wants to FEEL holy for bringing in sacred illegal third-worlders. They want leaders who deliver what the voters want.
You are of course correct. But the blue bubble DCUM Democrats who have made their political party into their personal identity will never be able to see the truth of what you wrote. What DCUM Democrats fail to understand is that Trump voters have correctly deduced that neither party cares about them, and many Democrats have a sadistic desire to see them suffer. If you already believe the governing party is harming you and wants to harm you further, why would you ever vote to retain that party in power? And those voters have been proven exactly correct by the many temper tantrums from Democrats who felt entitled to those votes, and who are now busily betraying their own supposed (and clearly non-existent) ethics by loudly talking about how happy they are that Trump voters are now being harmed.
What a strange post. I see some of this from other MAGA online and I wonder why people think this. Neither Rs nor DS want to hurt people (except for Vought, who is something else). There are a lot of $s right now who are very worried but they are trying to trust in their leader. We will all see how it goes.
Are you blind to all the posts from D voters saying they hope everyone who didn't vote for Kamala suffers? Cheering for a recession? We can't have a conversation if you're going to live in an alternate reality.
You are looking at this, of course, through your MAGA lens. Dems have been taking the “high road” against Republicans for too long. In 2016, Mitch McConnell refused to consider Merrick Garland for the Supreme Court, but pushed through Kavanaugh in 2020. Trump weaponizes every department he has at his disposal to settle petty disputes (taking away security from his own former Cabinet Memebers, Black Lives Plaza, etc) and is lawless with his executive orders. Democrats are tired of the high road. It’s not about wanting people to suffer - it’s about wanting people to get what they voted for. Whatever that may be. The Dems aren’t your mommies. Put on your big boy pants and accept the consequences of your actions.
I'm not MAGA. Just tired or hypocrisy and lies. Stop moving the goalposts. Democrats are in fact rooting for people to suffer, and they are doing so because they are angry they lost and think if people suffer, they'll realize dems were entitled to their votes after all.
Focus now Who is causing this suffering? Get them out of office
Yes Trump is causing it. And Dems are rooting for it. Neither is good. What would it take for you to get that through your skull? Neither party is helping us. Republican policies benefit rich people, but their voters are too dumb to see it. Democrats are similarly too dumb to see that maybe the party that takes billions from the pharmaceutical industry isn't serious about reforming healthcare. Neither of these parties is serious about helping you. You know who is serious? Progressives. Bernie is out there fighting for us. Trying to do SOMETHING. AOC is trying to do SOMETHING. If we want to fight this, we need new people who are serious about US, not donors.
With them having no power, this doesn't hurt you.
