Have previously lived in Fl. And one of my children graduated hs in Fl. UF has a strong rep in Florida. Typically seen as the smart kids school in the state. Plenty of highly successful & influential alums abound in state. Strong school spirit & esprit de corp & network. A desirable admit in-state. Has become a difficult admit for umc kids from Miami, Tampa, Orlando & Jax. Guessing well-rounded 1450/33-ish floor & near perfect uw gpa for those umc kids from one or the big cities to be competitive for admissions. Plenty of bright 1500+/34+ kids who didn't get into an ivy nor duke/vandy &/or opted to utilize their Bright Futures(ie zero tuition) program. Fl child's fellow hs classmates who went UF seem to be wholly successful & happy. Seem to love it, have a good social experience as well as strong academic ops & challenges. Friends from other parts of the country can't/don't believe me when i them great students go to UF.
UF acceptance rate now in the teens. Hard admit for sure. Seems to be a very nice combo of great academics and great sports. Men's basketball team a national contender this year as well and the football environment in The Swamp is special. I'm sure application numbers will only continue to grow as well, if that's possible.
