Can someone explain why this is a bad thing?
We can be fired at any time without cause. Get it now? Thanks and go back to your little cave
Isn't that normal work?
How many normal jobs are subject to a brand new administration with varying political ideologies every 4 years? I imagine a lot of private companies would have a hard time hiring and retaining at will employees if they knew every 4 years there would be a huge turnover in management who may decide to fire them and replace them with their own people. Which is why to function the government provides civil workforce protections. This isn’t even a uniquely American thing, it’s a functioning government thing.
This is pretty much the premise of a lot of private equity investment, so this unfortunately is not an unusual scenario in the private sector. Which is one of the reasons I am very empathetic to the uncertainty and worse that you are all going through right now. It’s just rotten. I’m sorry.
the government of a large country like the US is not a private equity firm. this is not just the people affected (and my DH is a fed, at FDA) but the entire country. find a country where public employees are fired and hired at whim by the president based on how loyal they are to him personally and toe the line of the ruling party and show me a democratic, thriving country. you won't find it. a prosecutor who was the head of the section dealing with corruption just resigned from the DOJ, somebody with a thirty year experience prosecuting cases under multiple administrations, including GOP administrations. a wealth of skills and experience down the drain, likely replaced with a judge Cannon type of lackey. not only we are losing talent, but younger talented people will stay away from the government even after all this mess is over. now you see why Trump wanted the photos of the deported people online and was happy to argue on socials with the Colombian president. Foxnews is all about that and these news about what is going on at the DOJ and elsewhere, nowhere to be found or a small line at the bottom of the webpage. my only consolation is that so many of those who voted for him will be screwed really hard too
