That's because the majority of Vandy kids apply (and get accepted) without test scores. 
Soooo...their student body consists of the wealthiest kids from connected families (celebrity kids, CEO kids, etc); student athletes who are pretty good students (and get scholarship money): and then a tiny handful of super duper smart (nerdy) kids ... who submitted their 1550+ SAT score, many (most?) of whom are low enough income to make Vandy affordable with need-based aid.

You're not finding some big cohort of crazy smart MC and UMC kids there. COA is nearly $100k/year.[/quote]

1989 called and wants its stereotypes back. None of your claims are accurate and I hope you're feeling okay?  A majority of admitted kids did submit scores; I wish that Vandy would completely drop TO, but > 50% submitting/admitted is not what most sane people consider 'a tiny handful'

Their COA is within +/- $5k of many other top ranked universities like JHU before Bloomberg saved the day there, Notre Dame, Duke, Northwestern, Chicago, Rice and all of the Ivies.  Because let's face it, no one reading this is one of the families that earns less than $100k/yr and thus gets completely free tuition at Yale.  [/quote]
