His very wealthy grandmother was dead-set against him dating someone who wasn't Jewish and she was the one paying for everything -- tuition, living expenses, etc. He was devoted to her and to his future career. We were very young and it felt wrong to pressure him to choose me over his future. It all worked out fine -- he did become a rabbi and I have no doubt he's a great one. He seems very happy.[/quote]
