I am in your same boat, footwise, and as long as I know in advance that guests are expected to take their shoes off, it's fine. Your house, your rules, I'll stay home. But I don't like showing up somewhere and learning that I have to take off my shoes or leave. If I'd known, I'd have stayed home (happily, not resentfully -- possibly a little amused that so many shoe-free-ers leave the seat up to flush and have cats.
