Weiner was Chuck Schumer's protege. He cleared the path to get Weiner his seat in Congress (Schumer previously held the same House district), line up the donors, etc.

The plan was for Weiner to eventually become Mayor of NYC after Bloomberg, while Schumer ascended to Majority Leader in the Senate. Weiner was well positioned to get the nomination for NYC Mayor in 2013, but then the texting scandal blew up in 2011.

So yes, when she met him he was a rising super star in the Democratic Party. He wanted to do two terms as Mayor and then take over Schumer's Senate seat. [/quote]
