If you are aware of the research on teens and their sleep patterns, Arlington moved their high school start time later consistent with the research. Fairfax refuses or is unable to due to their bus schedules: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/answer-sheet/post/fairfax-asleep-on-high-school-start-time/2012/06/13/gJQAnNNLZV_blog.html
Yep! I was shocked and pleased to notice W-L, Yorktown HS don't start until 8:19am. That is fantastic for H-Schoolers. The thought of rousing two teenage boys after remembering what my mom went through with my brother was daunting. My sisters' boys used to have to be up at 6:15am for high school to get there on time...after late nights of after school practice and homework. This whole thread, btw, is ridiculous. We are talking about some of the best schools in the entire nation--whether they are in Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, etc. There is no 'best'. People that think this way are out of their minds. Pick what works for you--which includes best fit for your child and best community for yourself.
