OP here - a sincere and heartfelt thank you to whoever wrote "The problem is that OP is trying as hard as she can to get her son to understand that he shouldn’t be having sex this young, but it looks like he’s just going to do it anyway." That is exactly the case. I have no desire to break them up. She is an admirable girl, and they have a healthy relationship. (Most importantly - neither is the boss.) It is in face very likely that they won't have sex anytime soon because she is levelheaded. But my son is most certainly a romantic who sincerely believes himself ready for many adult things. (He'd like to vote and drive as well!) Of course I know that this very delusion proves that he's immature. This situation shouldn't be happening, But it is. So what would you do?
14 is young even for dating, much less a serious relationship.
You didn’t date as a HS freshman?
Nope
Interesting. My Gen X peers and I had Gf/Bf relationships then.
Exactly. Spin the bottle and 7 minutes in heaven were so typical for middle schoolers. I mean look at 13 going on 30. How about the movie Thirteen. Look at every single high school movie made from the 70's until now. Some of you parents seem to have some strange notion that high schoolers are not sexually active and it's weird. And if you are going to show surveys, you realize that so so so so many teens lie, even in anonymous surveys for fear of being caught by crazy parents like you. And most teens will absolutely lie to your face. And if you forbid things, they will go behind you back the majority of the time.
I was a high schooler once and neither I nor any of my friends even dated. I know that some of the other students did. Unlike you, I don't assume that EVERYONE had the same experience.
