I mean, if it's a hot day at the park, taking a long walk, running after a toddler, what the heck else can you wear if you're over 40?  I'm sure as heck not going to wear shorts - impractical on many levels, and also very unflattering on me.  Skirts also impractical.

They look passable on models. But even those models would all look better in full-length pants.

I think OP went overboard suggesting shorts are better than capris because, for many women (especially middle-aged and older) they are not. That said, why not just wear full length pants and jeans. How is that inconvenient? Are you walking through water or something?[/quote]

Can you say [b]"105 degrees and humid??" [/b] You want to run around in the sun after a toddler in full length pants in VA in the summer?  I'm not wearing them to work or anything.  Just for walking, playing, casual shopping.  [/quote]

I don't see how capris provide that much heat relief compared to full length pants. It's much more about material the pants vs. capris are made of.[/quote]
