Remember when there was a movement called defund the police, which made clear that the goal was to defund the police. And all sorts of SJWs tried to tell us that the goal wasn't actually to defund the police, but just more accountability or something like that. But in fact, the goal was to defund the police -- make it so that police work was useless and criminals could do whatever they want and not be punished. Kind of hilarious that they didn't hide the goal at all, and SJWs supported it. The criminals won -- they changed the dialogue so that criminals should not be punished and should be able to commit whatever crimes they want. It's amazing that in such an educated city, people are this gullible. Next time, they should just call it, "We Love Criminals not Victims," and people would still support it. We'd probably hear from the gullible SJWs about how that just means that criminals are misunderstood and need to be supported, not that we actually value criminals more than victims.
I'm still convinced the whole thing was some bot farm chaos-agenting crap. The left is tragically easy to manipulate. Tell them if they don't believe something they're racist and they'll dance to whatever tune you like.
It's depressing how this country has lost its practical sense; now we leap from one extreme to another. "Defund the police" was a terrible reaction to a real problem - black men were repeatedly being shot by police during non-violent interactions. The core idea was logical - when possible, de-escalate situations by bringing in social workers to address mental health crises, rather than armed police. But of course the left took the concept too far with the "defund" rhetoric. And then the right has reacted and made political hay. And all the sensible ideas in the middle ground are completely forgotten. This will be a classic example of how 21st century America forgot how to solve problems.
I don't know that this is true. I would amend that to say that people in the middle always thought 'defund extremism' was dumb, and now moderate progressives are seeing the daily threat to their safety and peace of mind and realizing it as well. Is that political hay? I don't really think so. I'd call it a cross-aisle meeting of minds.
