We had direct and prolonged exposure right before Christmas. Somehow the rest of us miraculously avoided it. Multiple negative tests and no symptoms.
+1 Same. One kid brought it home, we live in an apt, and miraculously nobody else got it, despite 36 hours of likely exposure (and high viral loads--their test lite up positive in 30 seconds). I attribute that to the HEPA filters we run continuously in the apt. And that we moved the infected kid to a hotel ASAP after they tested positive. And then we masked when had to be around them (and moved a HEPA filter to their hotel room as well)
Happy New year to the hotel staff :(
Fact is there are likely contagious people staying in the hotel already---we had hospital grade HEPA filters running on high the entire time and left windows open for 2 hours before checking out. Oh, and kid was negative the morning they checked out. So by the time any hotel staff entered the room, the air was fully cleaned. So minimal risk to hotel staff or any guests. Kid masked whenever they left the room in a KN95 (to get outside for fresh air and mental health). Odds are very high that there were others at hotel who are sick and were not masking because "it's just a cold I have, ignore my nasty cough" However, we had no choice really. We live in a small 2 bedroom. One kid was in the other bedroom, us in our bedroom. They'd already been staying the guest suite in our apartment bldg, but we were leaving the next day to visit family and stay in a house rental. This kid was never planning to "stay overnight in our apartment as there is not space". Did not have the hotel staff clean at all while the kid was there--I went and retrieved new towels as needed. We took more precautions than 99% of people do. If I worked in a hotel, I'd be masking and if I cleaned hotel rooms you can bet I'd be masking and gloving while cleaning.
