NCap Imvite: Worst time of year. Everyone is tired and sick. Not as fun as Turkey Clause. Yes, it’s a fast meet. Appalling, unsportsmanlike behavior during the Men’s 100 free final last night from an NCap swimmer. Disgusting.
It’s not as fun as Turkey Claus because it’s a more competitive meet. It’s the nature of the beast, like any club sport being less fun than rec. What was so appalling and disgusting at the men’s 100 free final?
please tell........
In the A final all the swimmers were ready and at their blocks ready to step up. Except one of the NCap swimmers. He stood around, still dressed. They all waited for him. He took a really long time- all the swimmers and officials (and crowd) were watching him. When he finally got undressed, instead of going to the block, he stood behind it, slapping his chest multiple times, again, with everyone watching him. At this point, the swimmers had all been at their blocks ready to go for at least three minutes. To say that is was unsportsmanlike is an understatement. Also, if you are going to do that, you better win (he didn't). Disgusting.
I think I would be more upset at the Ref allowing this to happen. Call the start, it is up to the swimmer to be there on the blocks, if not he is a NS.
This. It is on the starter to call the swimmers to step up on the blocks.
DP - why didn't the ref (or whomever) communicate an official delay to the rest of the swimmers? It doesn't add up. Tangentially, at meets at which I've timed, the NCAP swimmers are comical in the degree of chest-slapping, bouncing, etc., that they do relative to other teams. 99% of them can't stand still until they're on the blocks. It's bizarre.
I feel like all the big boys do this in the 15&Up crowd. I don't think it is just NCAP.
I'm talking about 12&U, PP. It's only NCAP swimmers doing it at that age.
