There are a lot of good young players in the DMV The poor quality performance of a couple of local teams in MLS Next has got to be symptoms of pay-to-play and poor youth level coaching.
There are bad teams in MLS Next just like any other league. All leagues have them.
All leagues have teams at the bottom of the table. Doesn't mean they are "bad". The fact remains, the MLS Next will never have the best potential players spread across all teams, but only the players who can afford it!
Most are free.
The MLS Clubs Academies are free. The MLS Next teams are not. So they are a roster of those who can afford it, not the best players in their areas.
If you can't afford it, most clubs have some sort of financial aid or scholarship. And if you're one of the best players in the area, they'll definitely do everything they can to get you on the team... So it's not true that it's only a roster of people who can afford it. I don't know who they are, none of my business or yours.
I would love to see the data to verify that as fact. Without the names, a list of all MLS Next (number of) players in the DMV playing on Achilles, Bethesda, BA, SYC, Alexandria on a Free Ride. In addition, the data should show they also came from another team before that on a Free Ride. If you are getting financial assistance from for example SYC U14's to offset the high costs of playing MLS Next.... but from U7 to U13 you were paying elsewhere... then it's Still a player who could afford the Pay-to-Play system!
Wow, are you overthinking this. Yes, pay to pay is a big problem in our system. But if you’re good enough, you’ll find a top team you can play on, no matter what your financial situation is.
What a load of head-in-the-sand hogwash! Pay-to-Play as a National System for Youth Soccer has no impact on good players? Lunacy! From U6 to U12, the key development years, where are all the decent coaches, clubs, competition and leagues? Behind the $$$$$$ wall for the masses. So if you can't afford to get into the system, what are the odds of being good enough for MLS Next at U15? Talent is filtered out early.
