My son has a GPA at STA in this range with a 1560 SAT and wants to aim for elite colleges. From your experience, where can he realistically expect to be admitted? Does he have a shot at the Ivy League?
I know 2 people that had about the same last year and neither ended up at top 30 schools from STA. STA college counseling only works well for some. Others get very limited college advising.
Yeah. Things are tough. Finally someone on here with facts rather than wishful thinking.
Isn't this the case at every school? It seems like some kids end up on the right side of the stats and some have bad luck. Some of this is how the kids themselves play(ed) the game. There are kids who aimed too high in ED and then had to scramble in RD. Others who just plain old fell on the wrong side of the stats for ED and then had to scramble. It's just a giant crapshoot all around but I'm not sure it's the fault of the high school. It seems like STA got everyone but about 10 kids into top 50 schools last year and some of these 10 chose the lower ranked schools. To me that is pretty darn successful but I'm not of the mindset that my high achieving STA kid (with stats similar to OP's kid) has to attend a top30 school or is even worthy of one, just based on his GPA or stats. Anywhere in the top 75 would be fine with him and us. That is probably a fairly secure bet to make (not a guarantee but pretty good odds).
