People can disagree with one another.  
That's why we have a legal system, and Supreme Court will make a decision soon.

Yes, the Supreme Court will make a decision. But in order to eliminate affirmative action they're going to have to effectively admit that they believe it was discriminatory all along, which will be tantamount to saying they believe that all aspects of the Civil Rights Act were immediately accepted and applied by everyone across the entire country as soon as it was passed and that it was not necessary to ensure that opportunities were mandated. Anyone with even a tiny bit of knowledge of US history knows definitively that that's not true.

They can't say it's being used to discriminate now without saying it's been discriminatory all along.

In any zero-sum concern, a gain by one person or group means a loss for another. If colleges admit based solely on grades and test scores, then they'd be discriminating against those who can't afford test prep or who have to work to help support their family rather than spend that time studying or who attend high schools that don't inflate grades as much as others do, etc. When they base their decision on a talent in sports or music or theater or whatever, they're again discriminating against those who don't have the money or the time to devote to these pursuits.

Affirmative action is needed in order to correct the CENTURIES of deliberate effort that were made in this country to keep blacks from sharing equally in our democracy, and that continue to have residual effects that hinder their ability to compete equally.[/quote]
