The laundry room window at Harrigan’s parents’ house in Hickory was shot on Oct. 18. Two weeks later, Harrigan’s campaign decided to blame it on his opponent’s ad that showed a different house in Hickory to say that Harrigan doesn’t live in the district and didn’t rent an apartment in the district and change his voter registration until after he started his campaign. It’s a legitimate political issue to raise. It’s ridiculous to link the ad to the shot based on the known facts.
So basically the GOP candidate didn’t want people to know that he doesn’t live in the district and wanted the ad pulled away. So he connected the shooting incident with the ad and Democratic candidate being a good human being pulled the ad out of caution…
There is no reason EVER to show the home or immediate neighborhood in an attack ad on a candidate. How do you NOT know this could be a danger?
Unless you live here in North Carolina, then you probably don't know that this district is a newly created district due to the GOP's latest gerrymandering. The ad in question was showing that the GOP candidate doesn't even live in this newly created district, and the ad was filmed from miles away. IT WAS NOT THE HOUSE THAT WAS SHOT AT. His parents' house was shot at! And the Dem candidate pulled the ad out of an abundance of caution after the incident. By the way, it's 2022. I can look up any candidate's address on this nifty new tool called the Internet.
