When the ANC redistricting Task Force cut up historic Cleveland Park to reduce single family homeowners’ input on matters on Connecticut Avenue, people advocating for the gerrymandering said repeatedly on this board and elsewhere that single family homeowners blocks from Connecticut Avenue should butt out and focus on their own part of the “neighborhood,” as if Cleveland Park wasn’t one neighborhood. Guess that argument doesn’t apply here to the same divisive GGW/CP Smartgrowthers, trying to ram through their man Keith by whining about imagined exclusions for apartment dwellers on Connecticut Ave, the other side of the neighborhood. These same apartment dwellers currently hold 8 out of 9 ANC seats in Cleveland Park. Can’t exactly say they’re underrepresented.
8 of 9 are apartment dwellers? That will be news to a few of them, including Commissioner Dyer, Commissioner Hoyt, Commissioner Pagats, and Commissioner Siddiqui. Also, please provide some links to people telling homeowners to butt out. Odds are you cannot because it didn't happen.
Apparently Commissioner Siddiqui himself said in a recent meeting with residents of Sedgwick Gardens that he lives in an apartment, even though technically he lives in a condo. People use the terms condo, co-op and apartment interchangeably. The point is the CP ANC has few SFH dwelling Commissioners and Rosedale isn’t open only to SFH dwellers so often vilified by Smartgrowth proponents.
This whole homeowner vs apartment dweller (or more accurately, SFH vs multi family building resident) is overly simplistic, silly … and not a little hypocritical. For example, the current ANC chairman boasted when he ran for the DC Council that he was the only “renter” in the race. Fair enough, because he rents a pied a terre in DC - while living much of the time in the Maryland SFH that he owns.
