We've had 3 (4?) religious holidays so far this year... and endless more to come. Liberals fought hard to remove any entanglement between public school and Christian religion, now these hypocrites can't add enough religious holidays to the schedule. Wish my kids were in school and learning. Wish the School Board even cared about that.
Do you complain about getting off for Christmas???????????????
DP here. Christmas happens to be a Federal holiday and is a day off for almost every organization and business. It also falls during the Winter Break which is not necessarily affiliated with a religion (although of course it encompasses several religious holidays).
Christmas doesn't "happen to be a Federal holiday." Our Christianormative society is designed to accommodate Christian holidays. Winter Break is absolutely affiliated with Christmas. Hanukkah sometimes happens to (actually happens to) fall during Winter Break, but a. it's not a holiday that Jews need time off for to celebrate, and b. Winter Break doesn't move around to accommodate it when it comes early. Last year Hanukkah started the weekend of Thanksgiving, but we didn't get 2 weeks of Winter Break at the beginning of December. Kwanzaa falls in Winter Break, but it was created to celebrate pan-African culture as an alternative to Christmas, so the timing of it is based on Christmas. If you were designing a holiday today, wouldn't you put it at a time that is convenient in the dominant calendar too?
