I don’t understand how this could be an emergency.
because a bunch were dumped on them by another state who had no authority to do that. Those governors lied to the people and were basically human traffickers for a political stunt.
But weren’t those unlawful immigrants dumped in those other states by a federal govt that isn’t enforcing security at the border because doing so is unpopular with the political class in those states now doing the complaining? So you think small, under resourced towns in rural Texas should absorb the massive costs of dealing with a huge influx of people who shouldn’t be here, but draw the line when a few hundred show up in NYC? Seriously- how do you defend that?
I'm not defending anything, but last I checked TX, FL, and NY are part of the US, and the federal government has the authority to deal with illegal immigrants, not a governor who is looking to score political points and looking to run for POTUS in two years. Also, Desantis had ZERO authority to ship illegal immigrants from TX, a state he has ZERO jurisdiction in. So again, he's basically a human trafficker. We should put him in prison.
Yes, the federal government has the authority.... but when the federal government shirks that authority, the states most heavily impacted need to take action. And, are you equally as outraged about the mayor of El Paso (D) busing migrants to NYC? DeSantis should be awarded a medal for what he did. The Democrats are FINALLY talking about the crisis at the border. That is a miracle.
No it’s not up to the states. Sorry not how it works. When Texas leaves can you join them?
Answer the question: Are you equally as outraged about the mayor of El Paso (D) busing migrants to NYC?
I do not care. It’s all a stupid political stunts. This is just a made up issue by the right wing media because they do not want to talk about Trump. Answer my question will you migrate to Texas when Texas leave the US?
DP. “I do not care,” a liberal tells the truth.
Yet it is not fair for the citizens of Harlingen, Los Fresnos, Weslaco, Mercedes, Donna, Rio Hondo and many other small towns along the Rio Grande border to bare the burden of the quality of life in their towns being destroyed. I work with high school coaches, teachers, and athletic directors in these towns. People cannot leave their homes after about 6:00 pm every day because of illegal drug traffickers and people being trafficked. Virtually nothing is done to the coyotes trafficking people across the US border. No other country in the world allows strangers to simply wander in and stay.
I agree, it's not fair for the towns on the border in Southern Texas to shoulder the burden. https://myrgv.com/featured/2022/10/09/nycs-emergency-declaration-over-migrant-arrivals-in-stark-juxtaposition-with-rgv/
Which is exactly why they should resettled in places with more resources and tax base and populations who brag that they’re sanctuaries- like NYC and MV This whole episode has perfectly illustrated what hypocrites liberal elites are. DeSantis and Abott are geniuses.
Do you guys seriously think that illegal immigrants stay in those little bitty border towns? No, they don't. What Desantis did was illegal, which is why he's about to get sued.
When you had to swim across the Rio Grande with only the clothes on your back, you better believe you are at the mercy and charity of the "itty bitty border towns". Ask me how I know.
But those illegal immigrants don't stay there, "sucking up resources", as Rs claim. The people in the little towns have been there for decades. Do you think these illegal immigrants have only recently been crossing the Rio Grande? Nope. And let me remind you that both Bushes - Sr and Jr - are from TX, and they both provided amnesty to illegal immigrants. The issue of illegal immigration has been around for a very long time, and there has been infighting within the R party about it. This is a mess that even the Rs can't figure out. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2005-01-09/mi-casa-es-su-casa-get-real I used to be a R, and voted for both Buses. You are either very young or mired in the ultraright wing echo chamber to not know that previous R POTUS behaved not that dissimilarly to Biden on the issue of illegal immigration.
It has NEVER been this bad. Biden has set records for border encounters, migrant deaths, fentanyl seizures, terrorists crossing. These are not good records. Quit trying to downplay the crisis we are currently experiencing. It is untenable.
First of all, drugs have been trafficked across the border since the days of the war on drugs with Reagan. You might be really young to not remember it. The military went after drug kingpins who were sending massive amounts of drugs across the border. Secondly, yes, we are seeing in raw numbers, more and more people crossing the border. But there are also more people in general all over the world. 1986 saw close to the same amount of apprehensions at the border as 2021, but the global population as a whole was a lot smaller in '86 compared to '21. So, the rate of illegal border crossings over the years has probably not changed or has gone down a bit. Also, in case you are really young, Reagan was POTUS in 86. For example, we are seeing refugees from Ukraine and Russia trying to cross the southern border due to the conflict there. Today, the largest population of illegal border crossings are Venezuelans. Another reason why the US has a vested interest in stability in the Americas. Rs used to understand this. It's also interesting that Rs were fine with giving Cubans refugee status as soon as their feet hit US soil, but not so with Venezuelans. Marc Rubio's own grandfather was an illegal immigrant who was ordered to be deported, but the deportation ordered was not enforced. Rubio's grandfather eventually was given residency status. But, now here's Rubio, supporting Desantis migrant trafficking. "Fine for me, but not fine for thee". I am not for open borders. I do think we need to do more at the border, but I also think right wing media is making the issue larger than previous years, like in '86 when Reagan was POTUS, and when I was a R back then. And both Reagan and Bush giving amnesty probably encouraged more illegal immigrants to come here, even as the Obama administration tried to discourage them by taking out ads down south telling people not to come.
Sorry..... I just can't take anyone seriously who makes excuses for the absolute disaster that our southern border has become. It is not "global conflicts." And, while the amnesty granted by Reagan proved to be a huge mistake (Dems didn't keep their side of the deal), it is not what is causing our current crisis. These people coming probably don't even know who Reagan is. Our current crisis is the result of Biden's campaign rhetoric, his campaign promises, and the actions he took on Day 1 of his presidency sending a loud and clear message that his administration had no intention of enforcing our border laws. Period.
