Traffic cameras disproportionately hit black drivers
Traffic cameras are racist.
There has been studies linked above that provide the evidence. The placement of the cameras are concentrated in predominantly Black neighborhoods while most traffic violence is occurring in Wards 1, 2 and 6.
Per the Post article, traffic violence is primarily occurring in wards 7 and 8.
There have been very few deaths this year in Wards 7 or 8. The vast majority of the deaths are in Wards 1,2 and 6. That’s just a fact.
Facts require evidence. You constantly provide none.
I am sorry you are ignorant of the facts. So far in 2022, 13 pedestrians and 3 cyclists have died so far this year in DC. Ward 1: 2 Ward 2: 3 Ward 3: 3 Ward 4: 0 Ward 5: 5 Ward 6: 1 Ward 7: 4 Ward 8: 2 If you were going to prioritize ATE cameras, where would you put them? So why are the cameras proven to disproportionately in Black areas when traffic violence seems to a more acute issue is white areas? https://www.dcpolicycenter.org/publications/predominately-black-neighborhoods-in-d-c-bear-the-brunt-of-automated-traffic-enforcement/ It seems that you have nothing of value to add to this conversation except farting noises coming out of your mouth.
Hm, can you pull that same data including all traffic injuries by ward?
Arrogance is cured by knowledge. 2022 Fatalities, Severe and Minor accidents for cyclists and pedestrians by Ward. Ward 1: 37 Ward 2: 81 Ward 3: 28 Ward 4: 24 Ward 5: 56 Ward 6: 69 Ward 7: 44 Ward 8: 37 Wards 2, 5 and 6 should be targeted for ATE and not Wards 7 and 8. However, Ward’s 7 and 8 have the highest concentration of ATE enforcement. Why is that?
Ok and then pull any traffic accident resulting in injury (including car accidents)
I'll do this. Ward 1: 207 total traffic injuries, 2.5 sq miles, 0.24% rate per ward population. 7 cameras. Ward 2: 371 total traffic injuries, 6.4 sq miles, 0.47% rate per ward population. 24 cameras. Ward 3: 100 total traffic injuries, 10.4 sq miles, 0.11% rate per ward population. 8 cameras. Ward 4: 226 total traffic injuries, 8.9 sq miles, 0.25% rate per ward population. 27 cameras. Ward 5: 491 total traffic injuries, 10.2 square miles, 0.53% rate per ward population. 34 cameras. Ward 6: 386 total traffic injuries, 5.7 square miles, 0.37% rate per ward population. 22 cameras. Ward 7: 719 total traffic injuries, 8.4 square miles, 0.85% rate per ward population. 14 cameras. Ward 8: 443 total traffic injuries, 8.7 square miles, 0.51% rate per ward population. 1 camera https://ddot.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/ddot/publication/attachments/Active%20Locations%2003222022.pdf
If anything, we need MORE traffic enforcement in wards 7 and 8. I live in ward 7. I welcomed a recent new speed camera near my house and I'd really like a red light camera at the end of my street. It's laughable how little we have vs. the higher rate of traffic accidents!
