What WOULD happen if teachers went on strike. I've been in MCPS for 20+ years and have always heard about the mysterious "No Strike" clause; but have never read or heard what the consequences are if the teachers, who are just about done with MCPS walked out the door? Fire us?? :-/ #chicago #california #nyc
We would lose union representation for two years. Unclear what else could happen then. https://law.justia.com/codes/maryland/2010/education/title-6/subtitle-4/6-410 2010 Maryland Code EDUCATION TITLE 6 - TEACHERS AND OTHER PERSONNEL Subtitle 4 - Organizations of Certificated Employees Section 6-410 - Strikes prohibited; penalties. ยง 6-410. Strikes prohibited; penalties. (a) Strikes prohibited.- An employee organization may not call or direct a strike. (b) Penalties.- (1) Any employee organization designated as an exclusive representative that violates any provision of this section shall have its designation as exclusive representative revoked by the public school employer and the employee organization and any other employee organization that violates any provision of this section is ineligible to be designated as exclusive representative for a period of 2 years after the violation. (2) If an employee organization violates any provision of this section, the public school employer shall stop making payroll deductions for dues of the organization for 1 year after the violation. Instead of a strike, MSEA (Maryland State Educators Association) recommends "Work to Rule". Basically, only work contracted hours and don't do any of the "extras". https://marylandeducators.org/career-resources/professional-development/in-the-workplace/work-to-rule/
