Well, owning guns to defend against the possibility of a tyrannical government made sense when all anyone had was a musket.  Now the tyrannical government would have automatic weapons, tanks, bombs, missiles, fighter planes, nuclear weapons, etc., so I don’t think you are defending against them with a few rifles and pistols.[/quote]
