Somehow I don’t think telling Stacey Abrams to “go back where she came from” is a good look for the GOP in Georgia https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/23/us/politics/david-perdue-stacey-abrams-racist-remarks.html
David Perdue makes racist remarks about Stacey Abrams as he ends a lackluster campaign. Mr. Perdue, who badly trails Gov. Brian Kemp in the Republican primary for governor, accused Ms. Abrams of “demeaning her own race” in describing the state’s problems. DUNWOODY, Ga. — Former Senator David Perdue ended his Trump-inspired campaign for governor of Georgia with a racist appeal to Republican primary voters on Monday, accusing Stacey Abrams, the Black woman who is the presumptive Democratic nominee, of “demeaning her own race” in how she has described the state’s problems. Speaking to an overwhelmingly white crowd, Mr. Perdue trained his ire on Ms. Abrams, who narrowly lost the 2018 governor’s race to Gov. Brian Kemp, the Republican whom Mr. Perdue is vying to unseat in Tuesday’s primary. Mr. Perdue’s remarks about Ms. Abrams transcended the typical Republican primary campaign fare about stolen elections and accusations of disloyalty to former President Donald J. Trump. In a state where segregationists once demonized civil rights leaders as unwanted interlopers, and where how to interpret the nation’s history of slavery and racism remains a contentious subject, Mr. Perdue cast Ms. Abrams as an outsider in a state that has been her home since high school. “Did you all see what Stacey said this weekend?” Mr. Perdue said from the stage. “She said that Georgia is the worst place in the country to live. Hey, she ain’t from here. Let her go back to where she came from. She doesn’t like it here.”

Get the visual in there. The GOP is insanely racist. [twitter]https://twitter.com/mehdirhasan/status/1528872338431016960?cxt=HHwWgIDQ8dPS0rcqAAAA[/twitter]
Once again: how on earth is that "racist" in any way? She's not from Georgia, he is correct. She is from Wisconsin where perhaps she would be happier.
Once again, you pretending not to understand the dog whistles in your party doesn’t convince anyone your party is open minded, it tells everyone that you’re a bigot and you enjoy the dog whistles. Take the phrase “go back where you came from” out of this context. It doesn’t mean, “you’re not from Georgia, you’re from Wisconsin!” it means “you don’t belong here.” Given that Black people are not infrequently told to “go back where you came from,” you know full well what he’s saying here. I would imagine you were one of the people who liked to pretend that “macaca” was just a pet phrase George Allen used and he just happened to use it against that one person because he meant it lovingly. In other words: you’re a big ol’ racist but you know that’s bad so you pretend not to understand.
+1. Anyone who is not white (and anyone who is white and not pretending that this dog whistle language is ok) knows exactly what Purdue is saying. And guess what-he still going to lose .
How quickly these maga s forget that Trump literally told four minority lawmakers to go back where they came from. “In his latest round of racist attacks, President Trump has put Congresswoman Ilhan Omar in his crosshairs and signalled the theme for his re-election campaign. This time, he drew upon a classic racist refrain telling Omar, along with House Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib that if they, as he alleges, hate the United States so much “they should go back to the broken and crime-infested places from which they came“. Later at a campaign rally, he made a series of false claims about Omar as his supporters chanted “send her back“. In response to Trump, after receiving a warm welcome home from her own constituents, Omar defiantly reminded the crowd that she is what “hope in America looks like”, which makes her Trump’s nightmare. To this, Trump retorted: “She’s going to be the president’s nightmare? She’s lucky to be where she is…”” https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2019/7/24/the-long-history-of-black-americans-being-told-to-go-back I’m the PP to whom you’re replying and I think I erred in calling this a dog whistle. This is just a flat out aggressively racist statement, something meant to tell Black people that they will never, ever belong and don’t expect rights or decent treatment from Republicans and to tell White people that the GOP will preserve and protect white supremacy.
