There seems to be two posters that return to this thread time and time again to inject their opinion that "covid is like the flu". This message is directed to those two individuals. 1. The evidence is mounting that you're incorrect. "Even Mild COVID Can Increase the Risk of Heart Problems" https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/even-mild-covid-can-increase-the-risk-of-heart-problems/ "Japanese researcher suggests ties between omicron variant and severe hepatitis in children" https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2022/05/12/national/science-health/japanese-researcher-omicron-hepatitis-children/ 2. You seem to believe that just because you're vaccinated, that serious effects cannot occur? Especially after repeated infections? "Pfizer’s Covid Vaccine Protection Against Omicron Fades Just Weeks After Second And Third Doses, Study Finds" https://www.forbes.com/sites/roberthart/2022/05/13/pfizers-covid-vaccine-protection-against-omicron-fades-just-weeks-after-second-and-third-doses-study-finds/?sh=7fdd90a732af "New versions of Omicron are masters of immune evasion" https://www.science.org/content/article/new-versions-omicron-are-masters-immune-evasion 3. You seem to believe that repeated infections will not occur, so no response is necessary? "Epidemiological update: SARS-CoV-2 Omicron sub-lineages BA.4 and BA.5" https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/news-events/epidemiological-update-sars-cov-2-omicron-sub-lineages-ba4-and-ba5 "South Africa in new surge of COVID from versions of omicron" https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/south-africa-surge-covid-versions-omicron-84715610 'New South African Covid Variants, Omicron BA.4 And BA.5, Found In U.S. For First Time; May Be More Transmissible Than BA.2' https://deadline.com/2022/05/covid-variants-omicron-ba-4-ba-5-u-s-1235013935/ Charlottesville doctors tracking additional COVID-19 variants Doctors say BA.2.12.1 is evading pre-existing immunity from infection with the original BA.1 omicron variant. https://www.wdbj7.com/2022/05/09/charlottesville-doctors-tracking-additional-covid-19-variants/ 4. You seem to believe that there is no possibility of more serious variants occurring in the future? Viral mutations may cause another ‘very, very bad' COVID-19 wave, scientists warn Already other variants have emerged, notably one called 501Y.V2 in South Africa, that are just as worrying as B.1.1.7, Farrar adds. "It is essentially a numbers game: The more virus is circulating, the more chance mutants have to appear," he says. In the long term, mutations could arise that threaten the efficacy of vaccines. https://www.science.org/content/article/viral-mutations-may-cause-another-very-very-bad-covid-19-wave-scientists-warn 5. You seem to believe MCPS will have time to detect, reformulate and communicate a new covid game plan if a more serious variant appears? For which the MCPS Central Office and Board of Education's response track record seems to be inept and incompetent in dealing with covid spikes to date? "COVID-19 testing has dropped as much as 90% worldwide, making it tougher for scientists to spot new variants" https://fortune.com/2022/05/10/covid-19-testing-drop-worldwide-scientists-emerging-variants/ 6. You seem to want to believe that Wolfe and McKnight are helpless to act? Yet it will most likely disproportionately affect the "underrepresented populations" that Wolfe and McKnight claim to champion? the Department of Health might recommend masks if a COVID-19 outbreak was confirmed in a classroom or school. “Beyond that would be MCPS’s decision,” https://bethesdamagazine.com/bethesda-beat/schools/mcps-may-ask-some-students-to-wear-masks-again-as-cases-increase/ 7. You seem to be under the mistaken impression that people tracking this thread care what you think? Evidenced by your attempt to discredit the data with inflated opinions not backed by data yourself? You could have chosen to not comment on this post. You could have chosen to not read this post altogether. Yet you feel the need, the urge, to make comments without facts time and time again. It shows your fear. Your insecurity. Your need to convince others that you are correct and the science and data is wrong. There is nothing that I can say nor do to help you. You must decide yourself to see the world as it is, then choose how you will navigate those obsticles. In the meantime, take comfort in knowing that, for now, there is not a more serious variant detected that will outpace Omicron. For now. The question is, how many repeated infections can a child withstand before the cumulative damage takes its toll? 8. If you don't like these comments or opinions, stop reading them. Go away. Feel good about yourself and ignore the thread. Move on with your life! I know it's early in the morning, but go grab a beer, glass of wine, shot of vodka, mommy's little helper, or whatever you need to have a good time!
Then wear a mask. Or stay home. You have two options entirely in your control.
She previously admitted she doesn’t like interacting with others (except on dcum, apparently), so she’s probably trying to perpetuate fear of covid in an attempt to continue her reclusive lifestyle. This is how you seriously mess up your kids, folks.
No. She did not. I did. Because frankly, careless people like you have utterly destroyed my faith in humanity. If our culture is truly this sick, I want no part of it. If you think your kid isn't messed up by you teaching them their soccer games are more important than their biology teacher with chemo's life, I don't want my kids anywhere near yours. No doubt you spend a great deal of time trying to make the world respect larlx's new pronouns, but making them wear a mask? That's a bridge too far. Our kids still go to school --masked. We do everything we can. But the trust and hope I once had that people would do the right thing? It's mostly gone. Especially when it comes to the UMC in the DMV. It's significant, I think that PG county takes this seriously and Moco refuses to. It's significant that the majority of schools with the highest case numbers skew from the conservative, affluent areas of the county. My kid's high school only made the chart at all in the last few days. You could say there's a lack of testing at play too and I wouldn't deny it. But there's more going on than this. I said it at the beginning of the pandemic, when you said this was just the flu affecting fat old people and I will say it again: COVID is as much of a scourge as it is because of massive entitlement. It is a virus spread by the careless rich, and suffered by the people they never even see. Now you're saying it's no big deal. I'm not sure how you think this will end, Larlx's mom. But not well. You haven't been right yet.
Haven't been right yet? Covid isn't going away. That's more clear now than it's ever been. Agonize all you want over that. Complain about masks, or vaccines, schools reopening, or bars/restaurants. It doesn't really matter. If it wasn't clear to you before, it should be clear to you now that there was never a plausible path to eradicating Covid. Vaccines came sooner than expected, and have done remarkably well. Remember when 50% protection was going to be considered a success? I know the media threw around words like herd immunity and allowed people to think a measles-like end to the pandemic was near. But that was never a realistic ending. Our current situation has always been the best outcome: a disease that poses minimal risk to people willing to get vaccinated, and that whose more severe outcomes primarily target people who are already close to death.
No one here said anything about eradicating COVID. Except you. Who said, "I don't have to do anything to mitigate infections for me or anyone else because Covid is forever. Grow up." Well, the thing is, Patrick Bateman, most of us have. That's why we wear masks, use air purifiers, and try and not expose our families or infect others with exciting new strains of COVID!!! In the middle of a deluge, you don't know how it's going to end, but you still seek shelter. If you're sane. I mean, if you're YOU, you start blaming all those greedy immigrants at the border, but like I said, that's really just about your family issues, isn't it?
You’ve managed to make not wearing masks even more enjoyable. It’s amusing how bothered you are by all this. Enjoy feeling this way the rest of your natural life.
