I’m a current ITDS parent. Not a troll. I am not going to out my kids or their teachers (some of whom have been wonderful) but for all current ITDS parents who claim to “love” the school, how many times have you interacted with the administration? And, have you had an issue at the school and have you tried to raise it to the school administration? How did they handle it? Or quite simply, have you even met the new HOS? Can you name the principal? Middle school principal is leaving and honestly I have no idea which administrator is the principal of the lower school. I raised a really serious issue to lower school last year and no one seemed to give a damn. It was so disheartening. I am writing this bc I think all this school idolization is problematic. ITDS is fine if you have a normal kid with a good teacher, but if anything isn’t just right, you won’t get help from the admin. They just don’t care about your kid
It's not idolization to be happy with your kids school. I have extensive experience in the DCPS/charter world (in a professional capacity) and I am very discerning about where I send my children. I don't think ITDS is perfect and sure the admin drops the ball sometime, but I still am very happy with the school overall and have no real complaints.
What grade? How long have you been there? Have you ever had any issues that you raised with the administration and how was it resolved?
I'm not PP but I have an ITDS alum and a middle schooler; we've been there since the year it opened. I've had to take issues to the administration several times in the past few years, with middling experiences. I really like the new HOS, though, and I am interested to see how things will go with the reorganization of leadership. I find her MUCH more approachable and less defensive than the previous HOS. Another thing: My kids do not interact with the administration, so even if the HOS or a principal gets snippy with me (as happened once in the several times I approached them), it doesn't influence my kids' experience. My kids have had mostly very good experiences there. No school is perfect and I don't hold any illusion that ITDS is. But some of the complaints on this thread don't square with our 11-year-long experience there.
