Loudoun County math staff 'to promote equity I think it is important to eliminate tracking'. For now they have eliminated algebra 1 for 6th graders. Stone Hill used to have about 15 6th graders taking algebra. This year, Rosa Lee Carter is putting just two 5th graders next year into PREALGEBRA.
That’s not “banning advanced math” if kids are still taking math 2-3 grade levels ahead. Sounds like they are raising the bar by increasing the threshold of who takes those classes.
DP. What is the rationale for this change? If they found that kids who have been accelerated have been struggling, that's a legitimate reason to raise the bar. If it's simply because it looks bad for the school to primarily have Asian students in the most accelerated group, and they're doing this to fix the optics, that's not a legitimate reason for the change. I'd love to see the data on how the accelerated kids were doing long term.
