I'm so curious about OP's intent in starting this thread? Do you want to be a "cool mom" and want to meet other cool moms? Is that why you're asking about cool coffee shops? I'm an FCC cool mom who lives in an older house that we won't renovate until we're done paying for daycare. I have a job so I don't get together with friends for lunch or coffee. Instead we occasionally have dinner or drinks at local places like Dominion, Clare & Dons, Dogwood, and Thompson. I use Trunk Club, Stitch Fix, and my Nordstrom stylist for clothes and accessories because I hate shopping. I work out at home. I get my hair done at Salon Sage, my friends go to Nash, Daniel, Hair Social, and the place by Aldi. I drive a Subaru because I wanted a safe car for the kids. My husband has a BMW.
God, I hope this is sarcasm. "Cool mom?" You have just described every basic UMC suburban mom anywhere in the country.
But based on the questions OP asked ("do you go to rare bird coffee or northside social?"), she clearly thinks I'm cool.
I’m not OP and I asked the questions. You, FCC mom, is not who I am interested in hearing about. I live on the Arlington side of the FCC border and I also drive a Subaru, get coffee at Rare Bird, shop at Nordstrom, eat at the same restaurants (swap Thompson for Lyon Hall), get my hair cut by a woman who was trained by Nash. Moms like me are a dime a dozen. That describes everyone I know. I am curious about the women who live up by Gulf Branch nature center in the $2-3M homes and the women who go to the 10am yoga classes because they don’t work outside the home. I’m curious about the moms who ask on MONA about live-in nannies and house managers. What do those moms do all day? I will never know because a) I live south of Lee Hwy and 2) I have to work during the day.
Imo the absolute best use of excess funds is horses. They take up a lot of time, they are wonderful and fun, they are healthy, and you can spend literally any amount of money on them.
