Actually, McConnell did what Manchin requested. Manchin had no problem burning a reconciliation bill to raise the debt ceiling. However, Schumer wouldn't do it, leaving the only option being to change the filibuster rules. Manchin had committed not to do so, and thus McConnell did Manchin a favor (and showed more willingness to compromise than Schumer). It's a favor tht will likely be a NO vote until the pricetag is$1.5T or less. [/quote]

Also, Manchin has no love for Schumer after his little floor speech. Biden and Schumer might be laughing at McConnell, bit they're missing the big picture. Everything hinges on Manchin, and neither has endeared themselves to him. Combine that with Biden saying what he did about Sinema's bathroom harassment, and you have a recipe for Democratic failure.

Manchin has steadfastly refused to work constructively with his party.  They tolerate him (and Sinema) to keep the majority, but they don’t respect him or trust him to act in good faith.  They know who Manchin’s really bought and paid by.[/quote]
