Neither school is popular with southerners, especially not Emory.  Southerners call Emory "long island university of Atlanta"

Emory doesn't have a greek scene, football team and is more known for its graduate schools.  It's not a traditional college experience that most UMC/wealthy southerners are looking for.  It isn't a land grant school with a lot of history like UVA, Princeton, or even UGA.  It has a student body that is mostly from other parts of the country (not southern).  If a wealthy southerner is going to pay for private college, it isn't going to be to go somewhere like Emory.[/quote]
