I think the comparison to Elizabeth Smart is a bridge too far, but I would not underestimate the degree of reproductive coercion in fundamentalist "Christian" contexts. She likely cannot access birth control, and has been brainwashed to believe that birth control = abortion = baby murder. Marital rape is not considered rape within their teachings. Young women are not educated and have no employment prospects. The road out is harder than you seem to think. [/quote]

Anna has been conditioned her whole life to be subservient to men, first her father and then her husband. JimBob and Michelle messed up big time when they failed to deal with Josh or protect his sisters after he molested them. Remember, they never even bothered to get the girls any kind of counseling. It wouldn’t surprise me if they were blamed at least somewhat for “tempting” him given how much they protect him even now.[/quote]
