Gates invented Windows which made PC's user friendly with a graphic interface. Prior to that you would have to interact in DOS on a PC. Also, Gates invented desktop applications which were standardized and user friendly. So yes, Gates invented the PC as you know it.

Vaguely right and wrong. C/PM was the hot o/s at the time. Bill Gates ported a tape based operating system and BASIC to IBM's PC. DOS stands for Disk Operating System. Disks were a new thing.[/quote]
