1968-1970: Camilla on-and-off dates Major Andrew Parker-Bowles 
1970: Camilla and APB break up. APB begins dating Princess Anne (Charles’ sister)
Mid 1971: Camilla and Prince Charles formally meet. They begin casually dating.
Early 1973: Prince Charles goes overseas for extended military service. Prince Charles makes no commitment to Camilla before he leaves.
Spring 1973: Camilla and APB get back together, announce their engagement.

The events of 1973 are not very clear. The Earl Mountbatten was sort of acting as a marriage consultant for the Royal family, giving Charles advice and vetting the suitability of the young women hanging around Charles. It is rumored that Lord Mountbatten - as a very senior military official - had Charles sent away on extended overseas duty in 1973 to get him away from Camilla. He also apparently strongly encouraged the marriage between Camilla and APB.[/quote]
