Pete will be Secretary of State or UN Ambassador. He’s overly qualified to be Joe Biden’s press person or calendar boy. He speaks several languages, and he has military service. Secretary of State; book it.
State is in shambles after Trump. They need a leader that has both foreign policy experience and experience running a large, complex enterprise. Buttigieg has the potential, but not the experience. It's way too risky to trust the State Department right now to someone with Buttigieg's level of experience. I don't know who it will be, but it won't be him. It probably won't be anyone who sucks up a lot of media attention either. That's simply not what State needs right now.
Thank you! I don’t know why people think it’s ok to have people with no experience running huge federal agencies. Pete being the UN Ambassador is fine. SecState? No way.
I agree. But boy did 45 set the bar low for what experience meant. One thing about Pete I might add though, he used to work for McKinsey. Not saying that totally certifies him as a competent SoS, but he def has the chops and experience to fix messed up mgmt.
Says someone who has never been on the receiving end of a "management" consulting firm's attempts of "fix" messed up management. This isn't anything to do with Buttigieg, whom I think has a lot of great qualities, it's just that McKinsey doesn't sway my opinion of him and his experience in the least. And I maintain that he is not the right person for State. I, personally, don't think Susan Rice is either, just because State needs to rebuild and heal. A very public persona is not that person. It needs to be someone senior and competent to can right the ship at home while representing the US with dignity and unwavering support of American values and ideals abroad...but who will never themselves be the story. Basically, if Biden weren't going to be President, it would be him.
